November 6, 2013--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Clinton Nuclear Generating Station, owned and operated by Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois), ran into some problems during an attempt to ramp up Unit 1. The unit had been undergoing a refueling outage for nearly a month, and it experienced problems with its feed water pump while returning to full power.
Officials are optimistic that the repairs will take only a couple of days and that the unit will continue to operate at a reduced load.
The Clinton station, located near Clinton, Illinois, has a single General Electric Generation II boiling water reactor. It features a BWR-6 design with a Mark III containment structure. The power station began service on April 24, 1987, and is now capable of generating 1,043 megawatts.
