Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the placing of the 157th fuel assembly onto its final position on November 26, 2012, the first loading of fuel for Unit 1 of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation's (CGNPC) (Shenzhen, Guangdong) Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Station was completed, according to an announcement from the CGNPC on November 29, 2012.
The Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Station, located in Hongyanhe Town, Dalian City of northeast China's Liaoning province, was the first nuclear power project to kick off construction during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10) in China. Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Company Limited (Dalian, Liaoning), a joint venture of the CGNPC (45%), CPI Nuclear Power Company Limited (Beijing) (45%) and Dalian Construction and Investment Corporation (Dalian, Liaoning) (10%), is responsible for the development and future operation of the project. China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen) is serving as the general contractor, and China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Company Limited (CNI23) (Beijing) is serving as the installation contractor.
According to plans, the project will be furnished with four 1,000-megawatt nuclear power units in Phase I and another four units of the same size in Phase II. Construction of Unit 1 started in March 2008.
On September 28, 2011, the unit is ready for cold testing. Through nearly two months of testing, cold testing of the unit was completed on December 24, 2011. A hot test for the unit kicked off on June 3, 2012, and was completed on July 4. Successful completion of the first loading has cleared the way for the first startup and the first grid connection in the next stage. According to the schedule, Unit 1 of the project will begin operations by the end of 2012.
Among the leaders and representatives who witnessed the loading process was the supervisor from the Northeast Nuclear & Radiation Safety Monitoring Station of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
