Being close to the Gulf of Mexico’s rich hydrocarbon reserves and having excellent distribution infrastructure (waterways, rail, pipelines), the Gulf Coast Region is one of the most densely populated regions for industrial plants in the country. The Gulf Coast Region is home to just under 2,400 major operational industrial plants. Companies are developing 212 grassroot industrial plants. Thirty-two of these plants are currently under construction while the rest are in the planning and engineering stages.

The majority of the project development in the Gulf Coast Region is for energy-related projects, such as power plants, petroleum refineries, LNG, oil & natural gas terminals, ethanol and petrochemicals. There are 31 grassroot power plants planned and 32 grassroot alternative fuels (ethanol, biodiesel) plants planned.
