Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Venezuelan state-owned petrochemicals company Petroquimica de Venezuela S.A. (Pequiven) (Valencia) is advancing with plans to construct an ammonia plant at the Jose Antonio Anzoategui Petrochemical complex.
The new facility is designed to produce up to 1,800 metric tons per day of ammonia. In-house conceptual engineering is under way, and engineering and construction firms will be selected in 2009. Construction is planned to start by the second quarter of 2010, with project completion expected by the first quarter of 2012.
Fertilizantes Nitrogenados de Venezuela, Fertinitro, began operations of the Jose Petrochemical Complex in 1998. The company's manufacturing facilities consist of two ammonia and two urea plants. The plants' combined current capacity for ammonia is 1,600 metric tons per day and 4,400 metric tons per day of urea. Ammonia is used as a raw material in a wide range of products such as explosives and fertilizers.
Pequiven, which operates the complex through its subsidiary Fertinitro, is responsible for the development and operation of the country's petrochemical sector. The company has three principal business areas: fertilizers, industrial chemicals, and olefins and plastic resins, and is one of the largest producers of petrochemical products in Venezuela.
