Vietnam Steel Sector Slows, an Industrial Info Market Brief
Vietnam's steelmakers are finding it hard to operate as the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is disrupting their supply chains for raw materials
Released Monday, March 16, 2020
Vietnam's steelmakers are finding it hard to operate as the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is disrupting their supply chains for raw materials. These companies import semi-finished steel products for metal processing, as well as raw materials for steel-making, from countries affected by COVID-19, such as China, Japan and South Korea.
Trinh Khoi Nguyen, the vice chairman of Vietnam Steel Association, recently urged Vietnam's government to ease tax rates and expand credit to the steel industry, to minimize damage caused by COVID-19.
Industrial Info is tracking nearly $13 billion worth of active steel-making projects in Vietnam. Click here for a list, and see graph below for a breakdown by project type.
