Villar Mir Plans Energy Complex in Huelva, Spain

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Grupo Villar Mir (Madrid, Spain) participates in the natural gas market through subsidiary Energía Gas y Huelva S.A. (Madrid), also known as GVM Energía. At the moment, the company is developing the preliminary construction phase for an energy complex in Exterior Port Facilities in Huelva, Madrid.

The project, which is called Energás Project, includes an LNG regasification terminal that will initially have two 150,000-cubic-meter LNG-storage tanks. The project also includes construction of a natural gas-fired power plant to supply power to the national grid, in order to meet the region's rising demand for power. The power plant will have two combined-cycle gas turbine packages, which will produce 400 megawatts each.

The proposed port facilities and the LNG terminal will supply gas to ammonia factory Fertiberia, which is in Palos, and its power house.

At the moment preliminary studies are being performed, and permits are expected to be ready by January 2011. Construction of the power plant is expected to commence in the summer of 2012, and the construction of the LNG terminal is expected to begin shortly thereafter. Both plants are expected to be complete and operational by mid-2015.

Villar Mir Group also announced that they will invest 560 million euros in building four hydroelectric plants in China. Initially, the plants will supply electricity to a silicon company´s factory.
