(PEC 12003067)
To service their store expansion program in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Wegmans selected a 100-acre site in Schuylkill County for the location of a new 230,000 square foot food distribution center.
Acting as their own general contractor, the company selected architectural firm Food Tech Structures (Hanover, Massachesetts) to design a complex that could grow to over one million square feet, as Wegmans continues its growth program throughout the northeast. The initial phase will provide storage and distribution space for produce and dry grocery items.
Phase two of the project; scheduled to begin sometime midyear next year, will add an additional 200,000 square feet of further dry storage area.
Completion of the initial phase is scheduled for the fall of 2004.
Wegmans Food Markets Incorporated is a 65-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The family-owned company, founded in 1916, has been named one of the Top 100 Companies to work for in America by Fortune Magazine for the last several years.
