Woodside Energy Constructing Pluto LNG Project; North West Shelf Venture of LNG Train 5 Nearing Completion

The $12 billion project, which began construction in 2007, is expected to be commissioned in late 2010 and produce 4.3 million tons per year of LNG.
The Pluto project is composed of an offshore element and an onshore element. The offshore facilities, located approximately 190 kilometers northwest of Karratha, include a platform in 85 meters of water, five subsea wells in 830 meters of water and a 180 kilometer long pipeline to the liquefaction plant. The onshore facilities include a single-train LNG production plant, two LNG storage tanks totaling 240,000 cubic meters of storage capacity, 3 condensate tanks totaling 130,000 cubic meters of storage capacity and a jetty for LNG and condensate loading.
Woodside has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction management contract for the Pluto LNG project to the joint venture of Foster Wheeler Energy Limited (NASDAQ:FWLT) (Reading, United Kingdom, and Perth, Australia, offices) and WorleyParsons Limited (ASX:WOR) (Perth). Woodside also awarded the LNG and Condensate tank construction contract to Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (NYSE:CBI) (Amsterdam, The Netherlands).
Other onshore contracts awarded for the Pluto LNG project include: BGC for site preparation for storage and export; Leighton Contractors for site preparation for the LNG train; Boskalis for dredging; and STP&I for module fabrication in Thailand.
Offshore contracts were awarded to: EOS, a joint venture between WorleyParsons and Kellogg Brown Root, for FEED of the platform topsides, substructure and production system; JP Kenny and Atteris for flowline and trunkline engineering; Bredero Shaw for pipeline coatings; FMC Technologies for subsea hardware; Allseas for trunkline and flowline installation; Mitsui and Company for pipeline supply; McDermott industries for platform installation; Shenzhen Chiwan Sembawang for engineering for jacket fabrication; and Ramunia International Services for topside fabrication.
The North West Shelf Gas Venture LNG train 5 addition project of which Woodside is an equal partner with five other companies is nearing completion. The train 5 LNG production plant, located on the Burrup Peninsula, will become operational in August 2008 and will have an LNG production capacity of 4.4 million tons per year. The partners in the North West Shelf Gas Venture are BP developments: Australia Limited, Chevron Australia Pty Limited, Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Limited, Shell Development (Australia) Limited, BHP Petroleum (North West Shelf) Pty Limited, and Woodside Energy Limited, which is also the operator of the facility.
The Karratha LNG production facility was commissioned in 1984 and currently has four existing operational LNG trains. The production capacities for the trains in millions of tons of LNG per year are as follows: train 1 is 2.5, train 2 is 2.5, train 3 is 2.5 and train 4 is rated at 4.4 million tons per year.
