Yenning for Production, Aisin Automotive Opens Tennessee Aluminum Die Casting Plant

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Aisin Automotive Casting Tennessee (AACT) (Clinton, Tennessee), a division of Aisin Seiki Company, Limited (PNK: ASEKF.PK) (Asahi-machi, Japan), was established in January of 2004 to produce aluminum engine components including pumps and pistons for its biggest customer, Toyota Motors. The groundbreaking ceremony for a new $65 million plant was conducted on March 30, 2004 in Clinton, Tennessee, with the actual building being completed in November of that same year. It took just over a year for the production equipment to be installed and as scheduled, production started in August 2005.

Messer Construction Company (Lexington, Kentucky) was responsible for constructing the new 280,000-square-foot building, beginning site preparation in early February of 2004. Aisin Seiki Company, Limited supplied the majority of the new production equipment that was installed in the manufacturing facility. The current employment is just over 100 people and projections call for it to reach 400 in fiscal year 2007-2008. Industrialinfo.com first reported this project in early March 2004 (See Aisin Automotive Casting LLC Commences Construction of $65 Million Plant in Tennessee). The key people are in place and on the job to watch over the manufacturing of the aluminum die cast engine components. The new president and CEO of Aisin Automotive Casting Tennessee is Masahara Goto. Some of the management staff came experienced in the company’s production ideology, being relocated from the London, Kentucky plant.

The Clinton, Tennessee site was picked over six other locations throughout three states. Tennessee currently has over 900 automotive related companies representing a third of the state’s manufacturing jobs. The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development supplied incentives to the tune of $3 million dollars. These incentives included job-tax credits, employee-training funds and tax credits that covered machinery purchased for the plant. The city of Clinton also sweetened the offer by giving Aisin the 48-acre plant site.

An expansion for this new plant has already been discussed and Aisin Automotive Casting Tennessee holds an option on an additional 37 acres located adjacent to the plant. If these plans reach fruition and the option on the land is exercised, the new plant expansion would eventually increase employment to over 600 people.
