Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved the 1,200-megawatt (MW) Xianyou Pump-Storage Power Station in March 2008, the NDRC announced on July 4, 2008.
Xianyou Pump-Storage Power Station, located in Xianyou County, is the first pump-storage power plant in eastern China's Fujian province. Construction and operation of the project is being carried out by Fujian Xianyou Pump-Storage Company Limited (Putian, Fujian), a project company jointly invested by Xin Yuan Holding Company Limited (Beijing) (90%), a subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing), Putian Municipal State-Owned Assets Operation Company Limited (Putian, Fujian) (5%) and Xianyou County State-Owned Assets Operation Center (Putian, Fujian) (5%) in December 2007. East China Investigation and Design Institute (Hangzhou), a regional subsidiary of China Hydropower Consulting Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the research and engineering of the project.
According to the approval of the NDRC, the power station will be furnished with four 300-MW vertical Francis reversible generating units, for a total installed capacity of 1,200 MW and an annual power output of 1.896 billion kilowatt-hours with a comprehensive efficiency of 75%. Total investment in the project will be about $646 million.
Xianyou Pump-Storage Power Station is comprised of the upstream reservoir, water transmission system, the underground powerhouse, downstream reservoir and the switchyard. The upstream reservoir will have a 72.6-meter-high dam with a total storage capacity of 17.35 million cubic meters. The downstream reservoir will have a 74.9-meter-high dam with a total storage capacity of 17.89 million cubic meters. The project will be connected to the Fujian Grid through a 500-kilovolt transmission line. Construction of the project will enhance the peak regulation capacity in the Fujian Grid and the East China Power Grid, improve the grid operation conditions and promote local economic and social development.
Presently, various preparations of the project are underway, and construction of the project is expected to start soon. The total construction period of the project will be 66 months, and the first unit of the project will begin operation in 2012.
