Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV is proceeding with the $800 million expansion project at the Staatsolie refinery in Paramaribo, Suriname. Once complete, the expansion will double the refinery's processing capacity from 7,000 to 15,000 barrels per day (BBL/d). The refinery will produce diesel, gasoline, fuel oil, bitumen and sulfuric acid.

The expansion entails the construction of eight new units, including an 8,000-BBL/d vacuum distillation unit, a 10,000-BBL/d hydrocracker unit, a hydrogen unit, a gasoline plant, a sulfuric acid plant, a sour water stripper, a naphtha splitter and a visbreaker.

Aker Solutions (Houston, Texas) is acting as consultant on the project and is managing the overall project management consultant contract. The final pre-design phase of the project and the site preparation was completed at the end of last year. At the moment, the refinery is selecting the company to perform the engineering, procurement and construction services. The project is scheduled to be completed in early 2013.
