CMPC to Prepare Site for Construction of Grassroot Paperboard Mill in Chile

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chilean pulp, paper and wood company CMPC (Santiago, Chile) has capital approval and is conducting site preparation to proceed with the building of a paperboard mill in Osorno, Los Lagos, Chile.

When operational, the mill will produce 60,000 tons of paperboard each year.

The company anticipates completing site work by the end of this month. The total investment is estimated to be about $24 million. The complex will employ about 200 people.

The project seeks to install a stock preparation pulper, a broke pulper, cleaners, a paper machine, a winder, a reel, a calendar, motors, hoses, screens, drives, dryer drums, vacuum boxes, a boiler and a roll-handling system, among others.

Infrastructure building is tentatively scheduled for January 2011, and the facility

is expected to be brought online in the fourth quarter of 2012. According to company officials, both local and regional contractors will be hired for the construction phase.
