ONGC's Tripura Asset Project Progresses at Slower Pace

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Delhi, India)--Capacity upgrades at the Konaban Group Gathering Station Project in Tripura seem to be headed for a massive delay. With a sluggish progress of merely 54.98%, as opposed to the scheduled target of 71.1%, the contractor may find it extremely difficult to bridge the gap in time and finish its operations by August 2012, which is the deadline for the completion of the $56 million project.

The progress of construction is slow, at 37.8%, compared with the target of 57.63%. Construction activities began on October 21, 2010. In manufacturing, the project has achieved a progress of 73.52%, compared with the planned 89.67%. The manufacturing of 55 kilometers of 20-inch-diameter line pipes, 34 kilometers of 16-inch diameter line pipes, 32 kilometers of 8-inch diameter line pipes, and 35 kilometers of 5-inch diameter line pipes have been completed, while 53.1 kilometers of 20-inch diameter line pipes, 33.4 kilometers of 16-inch diameter line pipes, 14.27 kilometers of 8-inch diameter line pipes, and 33.26 kilometers of 6-inch diameter line pipes have reached the site.

The contract was awarded to KazStroy Service Infrastructure India Pvt. Limited, (Gurgaon), on February 17, 2010. The kick-off meeting for the project was held on March 4, 2010, while the contract was signed on April 7, 2010. ABS Industrial Verification (India) Limited was appointed the third-party inspection agency.

Keeping in view the additional gas production and requirements for the proposed OTPC power plant and new consumers viz NEEPCO and Allied Resins & Chemicals, the project is aimed at upgrading the gas processing facility at the Konaban GGS from the current level of 500,000 to 1.50 million square cubic meters per day.
