China Aluminum International Engineering Corporation Limited (Chalieco) (Beijing, China) has been selected as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project in the Matanzas Industrial Zone.

Currently, the plant produces 40,000 tons of primary aluminum per year. The project involves replacing four outdated furnaces with four state-of-art induction furnaces and a new continuous casting line. After completion, the plant will recover its original installed production capacity of 120,000 tons per year.

With an investment of about $35 million, CompañíaVenezolana CVG Alcasa also plans to improve production efficiency. The company seeks to increase casting preparation system reliability with the installation of automated technology

The installation already has begun, and the project is expected to be completed in about two years. The installation of induction furnaces will be performed between 2014 and 2015. Chalieco will keep the bidding process open for subcontractors until the end of 2015.
