Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Don't forget about the Pacific Northwest areas of Oregon and Washington when looking for hot projects in 2005, because the region is shaping up to spend close to $5 billion in capital and maintenance dollars this year, a significant amount of money for any area in the United States. According to data extracted from Industrialinfo.com's North American on-line project database, some 159 industrial projects are scheduled to move forward, as the Power and Industrial Manufacturing Industries are running neck to neck in projected spending for the year.

Silicon wafer manufacturers are busy again, and two projects planned by Siltronic AG and SEH America Incorporated total $1.1 billion between them. Boeing, Lowe's, and the Port of Portland also have $100 plus million projects planned, along with a commuter rail project that equals close to half a billion in capital spending.

Six other projects are in the $100 plus million range are planned by National Energy Systems, two by Puget Sound Energy, two by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and another $125 million wind farm project for Windtricity Ventures in Washington.

Following Power and Industrial Manufacturing, the triple digit projects start to drop off a bit. Fifteen other new construction or expansion projects ranging from $2 million to $35 million in investment are planned, as well.

The Chemical Processing industry will invest $279 million in the area, with the most significant investment being a new $250 million fertilizer plant planned by Pacific Chemical Corporation in Washington. Pulp, Paper & Wood manufacturers plan about $220 million in investment, followed by Petroleum Refining ($217 million), Metal & Minerals ($185 million), Food & Beverage ($167 million), and Transmission, Pipelines & Storage Terminals ($120 million).
