Abengoa Bioenergy's San Roque Biodiesel Plant to Start Operation by the End of 2008

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The construction of Abengoa Bioenergy Corporation's biodiesel plant in the town of San Roque in the Cadiz province of southwest Spain will be completed by the end of the year. This company has ethanol production plants throughout the world, including Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, the United States and Brazil. For more information, see Industrial Info's Ethanol Production Database, which shows Abengoa Bioenergy to be one of the top five spenders in U.S. ethanol plant development. For more details, view related news article from June 11, 2007 - Industrial Info Looks at Top Five Spenders in U.S. Ethanol Plant Development. However, this is the first biodiesel plant that the company has developed.

Abengoa Bioenergy is a subsidiary of Abengoa S.A. (Seville, Spain) (MCE:ABG), a Spanish company organized into five groups: Information Technology, Solar Energy, Environmental Services, Industrial Engineering and Construction, and Bioenergy. The San Roque biodiesel plant's design and construction was awarded to Abengoa's subsidiary company Abener Energia S.A. (Seville), which will deliver the turn-key plant by the end of this year, after more than two years of construction.

The biodiesel production capacity will be 200,000 tons per year, and the production capacity of glycerine, a byproduct of the process, will be 20,000 tons per year. The feedstock will be soy, rapeseed and palm oils. Although the $50 million plant is not yet operational, some of the estimated 47 employees, such as managers and administrative personnel, are already onsite.
