Abengoa Progressing with Construction on Illinois Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Abengoa Bioenergy Corporation (Chesterfield, Missouri) and subsidiary Abengoa Bioenergy of Illinois LLC (Madison, Illinois) is progressing with construction of their fifth U.S. ethanol production facility located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis in Madison.

Currently, the corn storage silos are complete, and concrete is being poured and building construction is in full swing. Plans call for the construction of an 88 million-gallon-per-year dry mill fuel ethanol plant that will require more than 33 million bushels of corn feedstock annually.

The estimated $200 million plant will utilize Vogelbusch USA (Houston, Texas) process technology. It is being constructed by Abengoa's engineering and construction unit, Abener Engineering and Construction LLC (Chesterfield, Missouri), and is located on a 79-acre site within the Tri-City Regional Port District in Madison.

Construction is expected to be completed late 2009 and will create 60 permanent jobs when fully operational. Ground was broken on the site in April 2008.

Abengoa SA (MCE:ABG) (Seville, Spain), the parent company of Abengoa Bioenergy, currently has four fuel ethanol plants operating in the U.S. The plants are located in York, Nebraska; Colwich, Kansas; Portales, New Mexico; and Ravenna, Nebraska; and have a combined capacity of 198 million gallons per year.

The company has additional plans to build plants in Mt. Vernon, Indiana; Wichita, Kansas; and a cellulosic-based plant in Hugoton, Kansas. Abroad, biofuel plants are being built in San Roque, Spain, and in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
