Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Aggreko (NYSE:AGK.L ), a Scotland-based leading manufacturer of electric power equipment, has been selected as the exclusive supplier of temporary power and temperature control systems for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, according to information from BOCOG.
Apart from the signed agreement, discussions are under way over a contract in which Aggreko would install the temporary power to support the Beijing Olympic Games.
According to Derek Shepherd, Aggrekos International Director Manager, Chinas sales only account for 3% of the companys total at present. Aggreko would like to seize the opportunities brought up by the Beijing Olympic Games to push it to 20%. The fields of Aggrekos investment interests are energy and basic material, like natural gas and cement. Aggreko would also like to provide electric power equipment for enterprises doing businesses in these fields.
Aggreko is based in Scotland and it has branches in 29 countries providing service support available 24 hours for seven days in a week. Its revenues stood at around $997 million in 2006.
Aggreko has long been a supplier of temporary power to many of the world's largest sporting events, including the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and Atlanta.
In order to guarantee power supply to the 2008 Olympic Games, the municipal government of Beijing will invest $3 billion to upgrade its power grid. This leads to a great demand for electric power facilities.
According to the director of the marketing department of BOCOG, all electricity used in the 2008 Olympics will be provided by Beijing Electric Power Corporation. Its estimated that the maximum power demand of Beijing will be 13,000 megawatts this year and that of 2008 is expected to hit 15,000 megawatts.
