Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Alstom Power Incorporated (Knoxville, Tennessee) has been selected as the turn-key contractor to handle the environmental upgrade project at the 720-megawatt coal-fired Iatan Power Station (Weston, Missouri).
Construction had already begun last fall on a $120-million wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubber to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2), and a $50-million Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) unit to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx). These will also be completed by the end of 2008, with tie-ins being conducted at the same time as the baghouse.
An 800-megawatt coal unit, Iatan 2, has been under construction since September 2006, and is scheduled to become operational in the spring of 2010.
The Iatan facility is owned and operated by Kansas City Power & Light Company (Kansas City, Missouri), a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri).
