Arizona’s First Fuel Ethanol Plant Officially Operational

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Pinal Energy LLC (Maricopa, Arizona), a wholly owned subsidiary of Arizona Grain Incorporated (Casa Grande, Arizona), over the weekend, officially began production and completed start-up procedures on the first commercial scale fuel ethanol plant to be built in the State of Arizona. The company held an official groundbreaking ceremony in January 2006 and getting to this point took eighteen months of construction work. Plant construction was completed in June and final equipment tweaking and adjustments have been made, and the plant is currently fully staffed and grinding corn.

The plant will have a nameplate capacity of 50 million gallons per year and will process some 18 million bushels of corn annually into the renewable fuel. The plant will also produce distillers dried grains and capture C02 gases off the plants fermentation process.

The licensed ethanol process technology was provided by Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) and the plant was built by The Industrial Company (Steamboat Springs, Colorado). Construction costs to build the plant were estimated to be in the $74 million range.

The plant sits in a 25-acre site located at 38585 West Cowtown Road in Maricopa, some 25 miles south of Tempe, Arizona. The plant is situated near major Interstates via Interstate 8 and Interstate 10 and a major rail line near the plant.

Some 45 new jobs were created with the plant opening and employment could grow as the company has designed the facility to be easily expanded to 100 million gallons per year.

Six additional fuel ethanol plants are in the pre-construction phase in Arizona with a combined capacity of 216 million gallons annually.
