Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--MAS Australasia Pty Limited, a subsidiary of AusGroup Limited (SGX:AUSG) (Perth, Australia), won a scaffolding contract on the Gorgon LNG project.
The Chicago Bridge & Iron (NYSE:CBI) and Kentz joint venture (CKJV) awarded the $32.61 million (AUD$34.5 million) contract to MAS Australasia this month. CKJV's scope of work on the Gorgon project includes all major mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and commissioning work on the downstream plant site on Barrow Island. MAS Australasia's contract scope includes the erection of multipurpose scaffolding to provide access for painting, installation, insulation and other works on the island.
MAS will assist CKJV with the planning, design engineering and coordination of scaffolding. As part of this very large scaffolding contract, MAS will provide key management personnel and use of a specialised scaffold management system. Jobs will be created for at least 80 people.
The contract is for ongoing scaffolding services, and AusGroup anticipates that strong performance and delivery by MAS Australasia on this project will help AusGroup to secure additional work on the Gorgon project. AusGroup already has celebrated numerous wins on Gorgon, the largest being fabrication of pipe spools, a contract that has grown substantially in volume over the years as a result of AusGroup's success in contract delivery.
AusGroup CEO and Managing Director Laurie Barlow said last week: "This contract win reinforces MAS as a leading industrial scaffolder in Australia and the LNG sector, providing highly skilled personnel with the expertise to meet project challenges and deliver project outcomes to the highest standard."
The Gorgon LNG project's completion and start-up is scheduled for the beginning of 2015, with various aspects to be completed earlier. One of three amine absorber columns is now in place, and the storage tanks will be complete in about six months. The onsite installation for one of the three LNG trains is under way.
MAS Australasia is to begin the scope of works this month. CKJV's work onsite is now ramping up, and scaffolding is crucial to see the project through to final commissioning.
