Biomass Power Plant Planned for Idaho Sawmill

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held Emerald Forest Products (Emmett, Idaho) is moving forward with plans to build a biomass power plant on the site of a recently constructed sawmill in Emmett. Emerald plans to build a 10-megawatt (MW) power plant utilizing a biomass boiler to burn wood waste, and to install a 12-MW previously-owned steam turbine generator. The company has secured power agreements and the necessary permits to begin constructing the power plant.

Construction on the power plant is scheduled to begin in two months, and Emerald plans to have the construction phase wrapped up by the end of 2011 to meet the company's agreement to supply electricity in January 2012.

Stantec Engineering (Walnut Creek, California) is the lead engineer on the project. Emerald plans to utilize the services of Tetrad Services (Red Bluff, California) to install the turbine generator and Bay City Boiler (Hayward, California) to supply the boiler, electrostatic precipitator, and cooling tower.

Emerald will operate the plant under the ownership of Yellowstone Power, an affiliated company, and will sell power to Idaho Power.
