Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Benton County Wind Farm LLC, a subsidiary of BP Alternative Energy North America Incorporated (Oakville, California), has completed construction and began operation of a $215 million, 130-megawatt (MW) windfarm in Benton County in Fowler, Indiana.

Construction for the project started in September 2007 and was completed in April 2008. The project consisted of constructing 87 1.5 MW GE Energy SLE model wind turbines in Fowler to supply renewable energy to the grid. The remaining 33 turbines for the project should be in full commercial operation by the end of the summer and will fulfill its power requirements for Duke Energy. The rest of the facility will supply 30 MW of power to Vectren Energy Delivery Incorporated under a separate agreement.

WindConnect, a division of RMT Incorporated and a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE:LNT) (Madison, Wisconsin), provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.
