Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). BP (NYSE: BP) (Chicago, Illinois) plans to spend approximately $20 million at their Wando, (Cooper River) South Carolina purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. They will be adding two 415 million btu/hr low NOx burner boilers to replace two 242 million btu/hr steam boilers at the PTA plant, supporting the production of polyester fibers and films. The new boilers will burn natural gas and a very low sulfur distillate (VLSD) fuel oil, to replace the fuel oil currently being fired in the existing boilers. Two onsite storage tanks will make the transition to store the VLSD.
