Brazilian Company Performs Economic Evaluation for Grassroot Ethanol and Sugar Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazilian company Usina Gloria Ltda (Piracicaba) is performing an economic evaluation and looking for funds to build its first ethanol and sugar plant in the city of Gloria de Dourados, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Southern Brazil. The investment required to develop this project is estimated to be $150 million.

The plant will use sugarcane feedstocks. Juice will be used for the production of fuel ethanol and sugar, and the remaining biomass (bagasse) will be burnt and used to power steam turbine/generators to produce electric energy. The production capacities of the Gloria de Dourados facility are expected to be 24 million gallons of fuel ethanol and 150,000 tons of sugar per year, as well as 40 megawatts (MW) of energy, which will be used to power the plant's operations; the remainder will be sold to the grid. The crushing capacity of the plant will be increased gradually to 3 million tons of sugarcane per year, although the initial milling will be about 1.5 million tons.

The Gloria de Dourados plant is the first project of Usina Gloria Ltda, which was founded for this purpose. The company and consultant GAtec SA - Gestao Agroindustrial (Piracicaba, Brazil) estimate that construction of the facility may begin in late 2010, and be completed by late 2012.
