Cargill Investing More than $300 Million in Manufacturing Assets in U.S., Canada

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Cargill Incorporated (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is securing its position as a leading producer of food and agricultural products by investing in major upgrades and expansions of its manufacturing assets. Cargill has more than $320 million in equipment and construction project activity on the table that is marked for facilities across the U.S. and Canada.

According to Industrial Info, planned expenditures in the U.S. amount to $233 million from 22 projects, while figures for Canada show $87 million in total expenditures from just three projects.

Cargill investment plans include projects at corn milling operations, meat processing plants, grain processing and storage terminals and elevators, and a waste-to-energy project. Modernization plans for a Memphis, Tennessee, plant that produces high-fructose corn syrup are estimated at $72 million, making it the largest project in terms of investment value. In High River, Alberta, the company plans to utilize waste material generated from a beef slaughtering and processing operation as fuel to generate steam and electricity. Cargill is increasing storage capacity at several of its grain terminals and elevators, including a $25 million expansion of a facility in Halls, Tennessee, that is under construction.

Industrial Info's Online Plant Database lists 145 operational facilities with more than 1,400 management contacts owned by Cargill in North America.

Cargill is scheduled to announce its second-quarter fiscal 2012 earnings in mid-January 2012.
