Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Emerald Renewable Energy LLC (Minneapolis, Minnesota), a subsidiary of the largest privately held US Corporation Cargill Incorporated (Wayzata, Minnesota), has purchased land near their existing Cargill AgHorizons grain handling operation in Tuscola, Illinois as the location for the first of four new fuel ethanol plants the company plans to build in the Midwest.
Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 100 million gallon per year plant that will process 38 plus million bushels of corn annually and represents a capital investment of some $200 million. Construction is expected to take sixteen to eighteen months to complete and the plant is scheduled to be on-line by the spring of 2009.
Additional Emerald Renewable Energy plants of the same size are in the works in Rock Port, Missouri and Topeka, Kansas with the fourth location yet to be announced by the company. Cargill currently operates ethanol plants in Eddyville, Iowa and Blair, Nebraska with a combined capacity of 120 million gallons per year. Once the additional plants go on-line, Cargill will boost their capacity for producing ethanol domestically to over 520 million gallons annually.
