Caterpillar Selects Contractor for Expansion of North Carolina Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Panattoni Development Company (Atlanta, Georgia) has been selected to provide general contracting services for a planned $28 million expansion of a construction machinery manufacturing plant in Sanford, North Carolina, for Caterpillar Incorporated (NYSE:CAT) (Peoria, Illinois).

Plans call for the expansion of the existing plant by constructing a 270,000-square-foot building addition with the installation of supporting equipment to house logistics and the latest robotic welding technology to increase the production of earth-moving vehicles used at construction sites. Construction is anticipated to begin next month, and overall completion is slated for the summer of 2011. Approximately 325 jobs will be created.

The Sanford, North Carolina, plant was chosen over other southern plants, including the company's plant in Florence, South Carolina.
