Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chemtex International Incorporated (Wilmington, North Carolina) is planning to construct a cellulosic fuel ethanol plant near Clinton, North Carolina. The project will convert grasses and other non-food biomass into 20 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually.
Chemtex hopes to begin construction at the site in July 2012 and have the plant operational in early 2014. When operational, the plant will need 65 employees.
The $160 million venture will be located on a 166-acre site on North Carolina Highway 24 near Clinton.
Currently, there are no operational fuel ethanol plants in North Carolina, although there is another plant being planned for construction in Seaboard, North Carolina, by East Coast Ethanol LLC (Columbia, South Carolina).
