Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The installed capacity of China Datang Corporation (Beijing) reached 99.56 gigawatts (GW)--which is four times the installed capacity the company had when it was established seven years ago--following the commissioning of the second 300-megawatt (MW) combined heat and power unit of Tangshan Fengrun Thermal Power Plant in North China's Hebei Province on November 10, 2009. This is a splendid milestone in the company's development history, China Datang Corporation announced November 12, 2009.
According to the schedule of units under construction, China Datang Corporation's installed capacity is expected to surpass 100 GW at the end of 2009, accounting for about one-eighth of the total power capacity in China. Such a size will not only secure China Datang Corporation's top position among power producers in China, but also secure the company's top position in Asia.
Rapid growth in installed capacity satisfied the increasing demand in China's economic and social development, said Di Ruoyu, general manager of China Datang Corporation on the ceremony celebrating the "twice doubling" of its installed capacity. In the meantime, China Datang Corporation accelerated its structural adjustment, energy conservation and emission reduction process.
In the past seven years, China Datang Corporation's power source structure was further optimized. As of the end of October 2009, China Datang Corporation's installed capacity of hydropower was expanded to 14.08 GW, accounting for 8.97% of the total nationwide; its installed capacity of wind power reached 2.435 GW, accounting for 17.71% of the total nationwide. China Datang Corporation also achieved breakthroughs in other clean and renewable energies, such as nuclear, biomass and solar. So far, the proportion of clean and renewable energies in China Datang Corporation has been improved from 11.37% in 2002 to 17.67% today.
In the past seven years, China Datang Corporation's energy consumption in its thermal power sector was greatly reduced. Coal consumption in power supply was reduced from 371.1 to 330.17 grams per kilowatt-hour at the end of October 2009. The capacity of units furnished with flue-gas desulfuration devices jumped from 0.25 to 68.72 GW, and the capacity of units furnished with flue-gas denitration devices jumped from zero to 7 GW.
