Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Cobisa Corporation (Houston, Texas) a twenty year old company is moving ahead with the first phase of a two phase 1,750-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired combined-cycle (C-C) power plant thanks in part to the cancellation of eight new coal fired units planned by TXU Corporation (NYSE:TXU) (Dallas, Texas). The proposed development in Hunt County near Greenville, Texas is having more positive feedback according to Cobisa Vice President, Gregory Platt, due to the growing need for clean power. The Greenville Project is a twin to its Forney Project in Kaufman County near Forney, Texas, which came online in 2003 and is currently owned by FPL Energy.

Cobisa hopes to have power purchase agreements (PPA) and financial approval completed in the June/July time frame so it can select an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) vendor. If all goes well the first 875 C-C three combustion turbine/generators (CT), three heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and a steam turbine/generator (ST) could commence civil construction in the fourth quarter. The first 875 MW phase is projected to be online in 2010. The second 875 MW phase will follow as Cobisa receives additional PPA’s.
