Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). NB Power Corporation (Fredericton, New Brunswick) a provincial owned utility has selected ADI Systems (Fredericton, New Brunswick) an employee owned service group as their engineer and Babcock & Wilcox Canada Limited (B&W Canada) (Cambridge, Ontario) a subsidiary of Babcock and Wilcox Company (Barberton, Ohio) a subsidiary of McDermott International, Incorporated (NYSE: MDR) (New Orleans, Louisiana) to perform upgrades to improve plant efficiency, extend plant life, and comply with environmental mandates at the 1,050 megawatt (MW) Coleson Cove generating station located in Saint Johns, New Brunswick.
Construction on the fuel conversion of number 6 oil to orimulsion (liquid fossil fuel 30% water & 70% bitumen), life extension, and environmental upgrades on the three oil opposed-fired B&W boilers each 2,250,000 pounds per hour, 2,500 psig @ 1005F commenced in November. The work will require burner upgrades, injection systems, stacks, additional controls, fuel storage tank (1,400,000 barrels) modifications, wet flue gas desulfurization units (FGD), and wet electrostatic precipitators.
The project is to be completed by November 2004 and will require each of the boilers to be down for a three month outage to do the modifications and tie-ins.
