The 223-megawatt (MW), natural gas-fired facility includes a General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) gas turbine, a heat-recovery steam generator, and a steam turbine. The first unit became operational in 1975.
The expansion will add 120 MW of power generation via a two-on-one configuration with two gas turbines, two heat-recovery steam generators, and a steam turbine. The expansion is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2016.
Quanta Power (Houston, Texas) was chosen as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. Price Gregory International (Anchorage) and M.J. Electric LLC (Iron Mountain, Michigan) will serve as general contractor and electrical contractor, respectively. The two companies are subsidiaries of Quanta Power.
