Construction Not Yet Begun on Republican Valley BioFuels' Nebraska Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Republican Valley BioFuels LLC (Kearney, Nebraska) held the groundbreaking ceremony last month for a new biodiesel plant, but construction has not yet started. A lack of funding for the project has delayed construction, and the company is not clear what course of action it will take. The initial business plan was to construct a 5 million-gallon-per-year biodiesel plant. The company is now considering constructing a pilot-scale 1 million-gallon-per-year plant or simply constructing an oilseed crusher and selling the oil. Feedstocks for the plant include canola and sunflower seeds.

The plant will be located at an existing grain-handling elevator in Arapahoe, Nebraska, and will utilize process technology provided by Technochem International Incorporated (Boone, Iowa). BD Construction (Kearney) was selected as the project's general contractor.

Construction of the crushing facility is expected to resume in October, and product is expected to begin flowing from the plant by mid-2010. The biodiesel portion of the facility may start construction in fall 2010.

Once online, the plant is expected to create 14 new jobs for the rural community. Construction costs to build the complex are estimated to be $15 million.
