Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Clayco Construction Company (Saint Louis, Missouri) was selected to provide design and construction services for a $322 million, Phase I grassroot lithium-polymer battery manufacturing plant for Dow Kokam MI LLC (Midland, Michigan) in Midland.

As part of the multi-phased, $665 million plant construction, Phase I consists of a 400,000-square-foot building with the installation of production and supporting equipment that will allow the company to manufacture 60,000 lithium-polymer batteries per year and produce 600 million watt-hours per year of battery capacity for the hybrid and electric vehicle markets. The new plant will produce large-format batteries targeted at high-performance, high-end electric vehicles. Construction began in May of this year, and overall completion of Phase I is set for November 2011. Approximately 320 jobs will be created. The first phase of construction was supported by a $161 million Department of Energy Recovery Act grant.
