The Port of Los Angeles was founded in 1907 by the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners. The port covers approximately 7,500 acres and includes 270 berths, 71 container cranes, 43 miles of waterfront and 27 cargo terminals, including dry and liquid bulk, container, break-bulk, automobile and Omni facilities. The terminals handle roughly 190 million metric tons of cargo annually. The port is considered to be Southern California's gateway to international commerce.
