ENMAX Corporation Begins Commercial Operation of 120-Megawatt Peaking Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ENMAX Corporation (Calgary, Alberta) has completed construction and commenced commercial operation of the $88 million, 120-megawatt (MW) Crossfield Energy Center near Calgary.

Construction of the project began October 2008 and was completed this fall. ENMAX commenced full commercial operation of the facility in late November. The project consisted of constructing three 40-MW natural-gas-fired GE (NYSE:GE) Energy LM6000 SPRINT combustion turbine generators, all of which will operate in a simple-cycle peaking configuration that is often favored for situations in meeting peak-power demands. The facility is a welcomed site as it helps to ensure that power demands are met for customers in southern Alberta.

Washington Group International (Denver, Colorado) provided the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for the duration of construction for the project.
