Exxon Mobil's Acajutla Refinery Undergoes Planned Maintenance Turnaround

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Exxon Mobil's (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) 22,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Acajutla Refinery (San Salvador, El Salvador), is undergoing a maintenance shutdown in the 3,500-BBL/d Power Former and the 8,000-BBL/d Hydrofining units.

Acajutla Refinery performs catalyst regeneration at the Power Former and Hydrofining units every year. The turnaround that began September 14 will last approximately 14 days. The general maintenance shutdown, which includes all of the refinery's processing units, takes place every six years. The next major event is scheduled for 2012, in which the plant will undergo maintenance, cleaning and inspection. The refinery also changes the catalyst of its Hydrotreater Catalytic 1 and 2 every two to three years.

Acajutla Refinery began operating in 1962 and is now the only processing refinery in El Salvador. According to refinery authorities, they have no plans to add new processing units or to upgrade the existing units at the refinery.
