FGD Scrubbers Under Construction at 2,000-Megawatt Duke Power Plant in North Carolina

Two of the boilers are rated at 2.4 million pounds per hour @ 2,400 pounds per square inch and 1,000F each

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Duke Power Company a subsidiary of Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) is having Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation (Englewood, Colorado), a subsidiary of The Shaw Group (NYSE:SGR) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) install flue gas de-sulfurization (FGD) scrubbers at its 2,000-megawatt (MW) coal-fired Marshall Power Station in Terrell, North Carolina, in order to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.

Stone & Webster was selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor to install Alstom Power Incorporated's FGD scrubbers on four Alstom/CE coal tangential-fired boilers. Two of the boilers are rated at 2.4 million pounds per hour @ 2,400 pounds per square inch and 1,000F each and two are supercritical boilers rated at 4.21 million pounds per hour @ 3,500 pounds per square inch and 1,000F each. Stone & Webster is having US Filter (Warrendale, Pennsylvania), a Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) business, install a water and wastewater treatment system to remove the solids, so the water can be recycled for support of boiler feedwater, cooling, and the scrubbing process.

The FGD installation project construction was started first quarter of 2004 and is scheduled for completion and tie-ins starting in the fall of 2006 and continuing through the end of 2007.
