Flowserve Wins $31 Million Order to Supply Ebullating Pumps to LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas Refinery
Flowserve Corporation (Irving, Texas) has announced that it has won an order worth more than $31 million from the operator of Bulgaria's largest refinery, Lukoil Neftochim Burgas.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Flowserve Corporation (NYSE:FLS) (Irving, Texas) has announced that it has won an order worth more than $31 million from the operator of Bulgaria's largest refinery, Lukoil Neftochim Burgas (Burgas, Bulgaria), which is partly owned by Lukoil Company (OTC:LUKOY) (Moscow, Russia), Russia's largest oil company.
The contract covers a pump and solutions order for Flowserve's high-energy, heavy-duty barrel pumps and the proprietary Flowserve ebullating pumping systems to be used in the Burgas refinery's new Urals blend H-Oil vacuum residue and gasoil (VGO) complex, which converts the heavy oil residues to high-value products.
Flowserve developed the first ebullating pump in 1965. The process uses the technique of continuously injecting gas and liquid through small holes into the heavy oil residue to enable it to be converted. The Flowserve pumps are recognized as the only pumps able to withstand the high temperatures and pressures involved with the process at the Burgas ebullated bed hydrocracker unit.
The pumps will be supplied with the Flowserve Technology Advantage Online Assurance, a program that enables customers to gain access to a comprehensive set of real-time information available around the clock. The system uses on-board, sensor-based monitoring equipment, together with intelligent pumping algorithms that can predict pump behavior and so provide the operator with the possibility to take proactive measures before any failures occur.
The Flowserve program has been made available by the Flowserve Integrated Solutions Group, which was formed specifically to address customer requirements for effective asset management. The Burgas project will be supported by Flowserve's network of Quick Response Centers (QRCs), which are maintenance, repair and manufacturing facilities located strategically across the globe to provide local support and service.
The LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas refinery is the largest oil refinery in southeast Europe and produces high-quality fuels, polymers and petrochemicals. The complex has its own power station and port facilities. LUKOIL acquired 58% of the facility in 1999 for a reported $101 million. The refinery is responsible for up to 9% of Bulgaria's gross domestic product and contributes almost a quarter of the country's overall tax revenues.
The new complex consists of an H-Oil ebullated-bed, vacuum residue hydrocracker unit with a capacity of 47,000 barrels per day (BBL/d), with a 37,000-BBL/d single-stage, high-conversion hydrocracker unit. In June 2008, Lukoil selected Axens S.A. (Rueil-Malmaison, France), a member of the public sector research and training center IFP (Rueil-Malmaison, France), to design and license the technologies needed to convert the Urals blend VGO at the refinery.
