Future Maintenance Overhaul Planned at ExxonMobil's Antwerp Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) (Irving, Texas) has scheduled a maintenance overhaul at the 270,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Antwerp Refinery, located in Antwerp, Belgium, during the fourth quarter of 2012.

The future planned turnaround, which will entail mainly cleaning and inspection, will be carried out in all three areas of the refinery: the Distillation, the Desulfurisation and the Conversion areas, which have 19 operational units in all. The overhaul will start in the fourth quarter of 2012 and will last approximately six non-production weeks.

General maintenance overhauls at the the refinery are performed every four years. Consequently, after the last one in 2008, authorities expect to keep most units online until the future overhaul scheduled for 2012.

The plant, which began operation in 1953, is located next to the Marshall Dockyard. It underwent a radical modernization in 1976, and only a few units from the original refinery, such as the catalytic cracking plant, "survived" this capital expenditure.
