Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The grid connection scheme for Phase I of the Xianning Nuclear Power Plant, which is China's first inland nuclear power project, passed the examination in Wuhan, the capital city of the Hubei province, on January 21, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) announced recently.
The examination meeting was held under the organization of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing), with the participation of related institutes and organizations, including the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing), Central China Power Grid Company (Wuhan, Hubei), Hubei Electric Power Company (Wuhan) and Central Southern Electric Power Design Institute (CSEPDI) (Wuhan).
During the meeting, the Grid Connection Scheme for Phase I of Xianning Nuclear Power Plant was reviewed and discussed in detail. The expert panel finally approved the scheme in the examination comments. The approval of the scheme paved a firm foundation for the project to get approval for the grid connection from the State Grid Corporation, which will be an essential support document for the project to get final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner of China.
Xianning Nuclear Power Plant, which is in Dakang Village, in Xianning City, is one of several inland nuclear power projects planned in China. The power plant plans to build four AP1000-based, 1,250-megawatt nuclear power units, with a total investment of about $8.8 billion. Of which, two units will be built in Phase I.
Xianning Nuclear Power Company Limited (XNPC) (Wuhan), a joint venture of CGNP and Hubei Energy Group Company Limited (Wuhan), is responsible for the construction and future operation of the project. Pre-stage preparation for the project fully kicked off in 2009. XNPC awarded the general contract for the conventional island and the nuclear island for Phase I of the project to the consortium formed by China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen) and China Nuclear Power Design Company Limited (Shenzhen) in May 2010, and the consortium formed by State Nuclear Power Engineering Company (SNPEC) (Shanghai) and Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI) (Shanghai) in August 2010. The environmental impact assessment report for Phase I of the Xianning Nuclear Power Plant's engineering stage had been submitted to the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China for approval in September 2010. According to the schedule, the first concrete date for Unit 1 will be April 15, 2011.
