Growing Power Set to Begin Start-Up Phase This Friday

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--This Friday, November 19, Highmark Renewables (Vegreville, Alberta), a.k.a Growing Power Hairy Hill, will begin the start-up phase for the power generation side of their biorefinery plant in Hairy Hill, Alberta. This plant will be a combined electrical generation and ethanol plant. Growing Power proclaims it to be the first of its kind in Canada.

Construction began on the $100 million biofuel production facility in April 2008. Next month, cows will begin donating the needed 120,000 tons of manure feedstock to power the generators. The 2.5-megawatt power generation station is expected to be commissioned and commence full production in February 2011.

Construction is to begin on the ethanol production plant in the spring of next year. When fully operational, it will generate 10.5 million gallons of fuel ethanol and 10,000 tons of fertilizer annually.

The campus is located in the small, rural town of Hairy Hill, Alberta, which is approximately 79 miles east of Edmonton, Alberta.

Currently, there are no fuel ethanol plants operating in Alberta, Canada. However, three others are in the planning stages.
