Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Hitachi Computer Products Incorporated (Norman, Oklahoma), a subsidiary of Hitachi Limited (NYSE:HIT), is building a $15 million expansion of the company's Norman, Oklahoma, data storage products plant.
Construction has begun on a 200,000-square-foot warehouse addition at the existing 164,000-square-foot manufacturing plant, which will be on a 70-acre site that will increase the company's space and serve as the company's distribution hub for North and South American data storage products operations. Site preparations began in January, with building construction starting thereafter. Overall completion for the warehouse addition is expected in October of this year. An Indiana plant will close as a result of this expansion. Approximately 75 new jobs will be created. The Norman plant currently has two production lines: lead-free with Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS), and lead without RoHS. In the past year, more than $5 million in equipment has been invested at the Norman plant.
The Korte Company (Highland, Illinois) was selected to provide general construction services and Charles E. Jarrell Contracting Company Incorporated (Earth City, Missouri) was selected to provide mechanical services for the expansion.
Hitachi Computer Products (America) Incorporated was founded in 1910 in Tokyo, Japan. Hitachi Limited provides products for industrial machinery, power plants, information systems, electronics, materials and financial services. With more than 400,000 employees as of 2009, their total assets are listed at about $95 billion.
