Construction has started on five projects, including a $40 million wheat flour mill; a $25 million fertilizer and seed storage facility; an $8 million grain storage elevator; $7 million in upgrades to a licorice plant; and a $1.2 million liquor distillery expansion. Construction start dates on the remaining 52 projects extend as far out as June 2016.
The value of grassroot construction activity accounts for 53%, or $429 million, of the current spending totals. In terms of project counts, the majority of project plans call for in-plant upgrades or expansions of existing facilities with a combined value of $391 million from 45 projects.
