Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Paradise Fossil Plant, which is located in Drakesboro, Kentucky, shut down its 1,150-megawatt (MW) Unit 3 on Friday, January 9, and its 704-MW Unit 1 on Sunday, January 11, for repairs. The plant is owned by Tennessee Valley Authority (NYSE:TVE) (Knoxville, Tennessee).
Plant officials said that Unit 3 was shut down after leakage was discovered in the water wall section of its boiler; Unit 1 also had leakage in the reheat section of its boiler. Repairs have begun, but officials continue to investigate the causes.
Officials said that Unit 1 should be ready to return to service on Saturday, January 17, and Unit 3 should return to service on Monday, January 19, if there are no delays.
The plant has three generating units, with a combined capacity of 2,558 MW at full load. Unit 2 remains online, generating at full capacity.
