Kimberly Clark Starts Construction on $250 Million Expansion Project at South Carolina Tissue Complex

Leading consumer products manufacturer, Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB) (Dallas, Texas) has started construction on a major expansion project at the company’s paper towel and tissue complex located in Beech Island, South Carolina. The $250 million capital investment will increase the company’s production of paper products including Kleenex, Cottonelle, and Scott brands plus diaper brands including Huggies and Pull-Ups.

Located on more than 1,000 acres, building space on the complex is expected to grow by 1.1 million square feet for a total of 3 million square feet under roof. Plans calls for the addition of a new tissue manufacturing line and auxiliary equipment, diaper production and finishing lines, a storage warehouse, and improvements to water and effluent treatment systems. Site preparation began this past May with the demolition and relocation of buildings. The new towel and tissue portion of the project is expected to be operational near the end of 2007, while the diaper plant expansion is scheduled for completion in 2008.

Jacobs Engineering Group, Incorporated (Greenville, South Carolina) is the engineering firm of record and C R Meyer (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) is the construction manager on the project.
