Kochi Island LNG Terminal To Be Completed in 2012

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Indian company Petronet LNG (New Delhi), a joint venture between the Indian government and leading oil and gas companies in the country, announced that the facility located in Kochi is scheduled to be fully operational in 2012. Petronet LNG is setting up this new terminal to be able to import oil and gas. The project includes the construction of two 110,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks, a regasification plant and a marine terminal with a 320-meter jetty as well as LNG unloading arms to receive LNG carriers.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Kochi LNG terminal undertaking will be handled by Japanese firm IHI Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) which is now finishing with detailed engineering of the project. The British company Whessoe (Darlington), which specializes in the design, procurement and construction of cryogenic storage facilities and handling equipment is in charge of the project consultancy.

Petronet LNG has already signed an agreement with Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (Doha,Qatar) for the supply of 2.5 million tons per year of LNG for 25 years that will be processed at the new facility.
