The new distribution center will be built in Bibb County on an 80-acre tract in the Airport East Industrial Park (Airport East Drive and Georgia 247) with construction of the 520,000 square foot building expected to start in February 2004. This facility is slated for operation in Spring 2005 with approximately 400 jobs being created. Bids are currently being taken for site work preparation, while mechanical and electrical construction bids are expected to go out on January 27, 2004.
EMJ Corporation, headquartered in Irving, Texas was awarded the General Construction contract for the new distribution center.
Kohl Corporation, founded in 1962, has a total of 80,000 employees with 542 stores in 36 states. Kohl's operates specialty department stores featuring national-brand merchandise and sells apparel, shoes, accessories and home products. In 2002, Kohl's sales were roughly $9.1 billion.
