L&T Wins Three Power Infrastructure Projects Worth $293 Million in Middle East and India

Two projects worth $226 million are from the Middle East while the third, worth nearly $62 million, is a rural electrification project in West Bengal.

One of the orders secured by the firm in the Gulf region is a $160 million project from Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC) (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates). L&T will build seven high-voltage substations and overhead power transmission lines within two years in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. AADC is a leading electric utility company in the Middle East and a unit of Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority. According to the contract, L&T will design and erect electrical substations of varying voltages between 33/11 kilovolts (kV), conforming to the specifications laid down by Parsons Brinckerhoff Power (New York, New York), a leading private firm providing consultancy services for power and engineering projects across the world. L&T will also be responsible for civil work, such as the construction of facilities and installation of utilities like fire protection equipment, air conditioning and electric lighting systems.

The second engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project secured by the firm in the Middle East is a $66 million order from Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (Abu Dhabi) to expand a 33-kV sub-voltage power transmission network in the region. The project is scheduled for completion in 22 months. According to the contract, L&T will procure, design and install a 300-kilometer overhead transmission line network of 33 kV.

L&T's power transmission and distribution unit in Abu Dhabi will execute both the projects in the Middle East. The company already has a significant presence in the region and is in the process of developing 20 substations across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai.

In India, L&T will execute a $62 million project for the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (Kolkata, West Bengal). According to the contract, the company will undertake all activities pertaining to the electrification of rural districts in the North 24 Parganas and Jalpaiguri regions in West Bengal. The project is a part of an initiative launched by the West Bengal government that aims to provide electricity to all the rural households of the state.
